An as yet little-known destination for surfers, Sept-Îles offers a dozen spots ideal for sea surfing (in cold water!).
“With surfing and stand up paddle, you’re in direct contact with nature and the elements, the energy of the sea: you can’t get enough! By offering adequate training, and equipment adapted to North Shore conditions, SurfShack finally gives you access to the sea . . . Located at beachside, close to numerous easily accessible surfing spots, SurfShack is THE reference on the North Shore!”, so reads the website of SurfShack, a surf and stand up paddle (SUP) equipment rental and sale company well known by surfing buffs in the region. Both a store and a school, SurfShack offers surf lessons and SUP lessons that are greatly appreciated by beginners. Up here, the seafloor is sand and the volume of water is small, meaning surfing in Sept-Îles is completely safe: it’s the perfect destination to first take the plunge. Of course, the waves aren’t as strong as they are in the ocean, but even intermediate surfers will find what they’re looking for. The North Shore has begun to attract all sorts of Quebec surfers, and German and French tourists as well. Will you be joining them this summer? A word to the brave: with the right wetsuit, you can enjoy the waves in Sept-Îles right up until January! Share
